Compare and Contrast Lamb to the Slaughter and The Speckled Band ââ¬ËLamb to the Slaughterââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËThe Speckled Bandââ¬â¢ are both written is separate eras and cultures, and these differences are reflected in the way the authors use language, structure and moral techniques in their stories. How ever, there are some similarities in these stories as both are of the thriller genre. The story ââ¬ËLamb to the Slaughterââ¬â¢ is about a husband and a wife whose relationship comes to a sudden halt. The sweet innocent wife Mary Maloney kills Mr. Maloney due to that he wants to divorce her. Mary becomes very shocked and confused and kills Mr. Mahoney with a Leg of Lamb. The story is about a Detective who finds himself and his partner trying to work out a case of murder. Dr. Roylott is the person who is suspected of being the guilty one but in the end he gets killed himself. ââ¬ËThe Speckled Bandââ¬â¢ is set in Victorian England. This was a time when England was a terrible place to live. Crime was high in the slums of London but when the Sherlock Holmes stories began to appear attitude started to change. Sherlock Holmes became the perfect detective as he cracked every case and always defeated evil. The setting of the stories reinforces 19th Century morality. The murder it self is set in an old mansion in the countryside ââ¬Å"A picture of ruinâ⬠. ââ¬ËLamb to the Slaughterââ¬â¢ however is portrayed as being set in modern Ireland in an ordinary house with an ordinary couple. The names of the couple help us to predict where the couple ar... ...s. The second plot twist is at the end, where the detectives eat the murder weapon. This is all due to these language techniques. ===================================================================== The moral message in ââ¬ËThe Speckled Bandââ¬â¢ is of an old 19th Century storyline ââ¬ËGood always wins over evilââ¬â¢. In contrast to ââ¬ËLambs to the Slaughterââ¬â¢ the moral message is very different. ââ¬ËLambs to the Slaughterââ¬â¢ however uses a Modern Moral code. ââ¬ËCrime does payââ¬â¢ in ââ¬ËLambs to the Slaughterââ¬â¢. A Visual Art Creation Essay
ââ¬Å"Adriftâ⬠is the title I would like to give to the painting I would make. The painting will feature a sailboat several miles from the seashore and seagulls flying across the sky. To create the painting, I will be needing oil paint, a canvass, paintbrushes with varieties of thickness and sizes, a canvass stand and linseed oil. There are several skills that I need to use. These skills include the abilities to create shadows and to make proper color combinations. The duration of the painting process will take about two weeks. This timeframe shall cover the basic oil painting procedures such as letting the oil paint on canvass dry before painting another layer for the visual objects. It shall also cover the time needed to make certain adjustments or amendments to the painting with regard to its colors and shadows. A majority of the lines that shall be used will include fine curved lines. These lines shall make up most of the sea waves, the sailboat and the seagulls. Due to the nature of the subject of the painting, the predominant shape will be triangles, particularly as regards the sailboat and the sea waves. Also, the main color of the painting shall be blue. Different hues, values and intensities of the color blue shall be used on the sea and the waves, the seagulls, the sky as well as parts of the sailboat. The image of the distant shorelines shall also be shades of blue. As regards form, the painting shall feature organic forms such as the form of the waves. Needless to say, the painting shall also include geometrical forms particularly the triangle with regard to the sailboat. The texture of the subjects of the painting shall simulate the smooth gliding of the waves as well as the hardness of the sailboat clashing with the waves. As far as the principle of unity is concerned, the painting shall be made complete by placing the sailboat in the middle of the canvass while the sea waves shall comprise the lower half of the painting. The distant shorelines shall be a little above the middle horizontal section of the canvass. Apparently, emphasis shall be given to the sailboat as well as the sea waves. The sailboat shall be situation at the center of the canvass. Less emphasis shall be given to the fading distant shorelines. The sailboat shall be larger in proportion as compared to the shorelines so that the effect of distance can be created. That is, the sailboat shall be made to appear closer to the viewerââ¬â¢s perspective and the opposite shall be of the shorelines. As regards pattern, the sea waves shall be painted in such a way that they reveal several patterns that differ in terms of movement and direction. Waves proximate to the sailboat shall be in an upward direction to emphasize their collision while waves distant to the sailboat shall be in a seemingly consistent horizontal flow in order to emphasize the lack of external disturbance from other objects. To achieve balance, the horizon line shall be positioned right across the middle line of the canvass. Also, the sailboat shall be painted at the center of the canvass so that it does not alter the weighting of the objects in the painting. Seagulls flying in the light blue sky shall provide a counterbalancing effect to the movement of the sea waves in the lower half of the canvass. After the painting is done, it should look like this: the predominantly white sailboat is at the center, the sea gulls are flying in the morning sky, the sea waves are moving peacefully in the distance while those close to the sailboat are moving more forcefully, and the horizon line equally divides the upper and lower portion of the canvass. The colors shall be composed of the different hues, intensities and tones of blue. The shadow of the sailboat shall reflect on the sea while the distant shorelines shall appear like a faint sheet of bluish cloth spread from left to right of the painting.

Politics and Education Essay
Education can develop the personality of a person not physically but mentally as well. An educated person can look at a certain issue from various perspectives. A politician has to control over a large community therefore, he needs some extra ordinary skills and the first thing which can make him distinguished, is his qualification. Education can increase his communication and speaking skills. A politician is a social member and his interactions with people are frequent, therefore, he needs maturity and sensibility in his talk and behavior. This is certainly possible with proper education. A politician is the representative of a nation and he should be the perfect person by all means and education plays an important role in making anyone perfect to a great extent. But then, I donââ¬â¢t necessarily think that they need to have degrees in a particular field but broader understanding would certainly help. They must have minimum qualificationâ⬠¦they need to be knowledgeable and must understand the laws. Politicians like Abraham Lincoln set an example of people who had no real formal education and look at the jobs they did and the leadership they offeredâ⬠¦It is true that there have been great leaders who were uneducated, Kamaraj in India, for example. But, such gems are a rarity. In life, compromises must be made. Until an intelligent and foolproof plan exists for electing such gems from the public, we must resort to what is best for the common man. An educated person is more likely to do a good job as a politician than an illiterate person. Education is a process that makes people more humane and teaches them a lot about the country, how to express themselves through effective communication and so on I think the only key thing they need to be educated in is the Constitution and process of government. A lot of the early leaders of the country were not well educated even for the time. Some foundation of knowledge is beneficial and they definitely need to be able to reason and learn. They need leadership quality, power in speech, integrity, sincerity, honesty and purity in whatever actions they take for development of country.

Walmart Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Walmart - Essay Example The tool of success touched the door steps of Walmart early in the century when it overcame the existing Exxon Mobile and other notable players of the market namely General motors and Ford. The core policy adopted across the United States was based on the principle of discounted sales across its large number of super stores. The success can be measured and evaluated by the figures, since figures speak no exaggeration, and tell the real story. While in 1993 the net sales stood at thirty three thousand dollars, by 2002 the entire sales had popped up to over 2 hundred thousand dollars. Similarly the number of associates, and the units also increased, speaking for its ever successful working and expansion. The number of super stores were also increased in the mentioned period of time which is another sign of the demand of customers and living up to it. Grocery retail is another area it has barged into and has found success. The endeavor was not limited to the local shores; instead the entire project was expanded beyond the borders and continents. In such pursuit, the company extended its services across Europe. The ever constant principle of Customer friendly services and reduces prices made its service and products sell like hot cakes anywhere it went. It was faced with number of obstacles in foreign lands, much in case of Germany, where profits were not as visible as in the rest of off shore markets. In bid to overcome this obstacle, it came up with the proposition of constant pricing across the local and international market in all the chains of Walmart. Germany hasnââ¬â¢t been the best of spots for hunting in terms of Walmart expansion. However it has received good response in countries like China, Canada and Mexico. Success does not come without a pre defined policy and procedure. Properly worked out mechanism needs to be in place which requires
